SX-64 drive belt?

Francesco Messineo
Hi all,
I'm afraid I need to replace the disk drive belt on a SX-64, any idea
where could I find it?
Thanks
Frank

yeah, my question was more like: "how to replace the belt without
dismantling another 1541?".
I think the drive mechanic can be transplanted into the SX-64, but I'd
need to find a really badly abused and hopeless 1541 with a good
mechanic...
Anyone? :)

Hallo Francesco,

Isn't that a contradiction?

I was more thinking in the line of a 1541 with a bad/unrepairable board.

really bad board (electronics is much easier to repair than mechanics,
at least for me).
Anyway, yes, that's an option but I don't see it easy to find such a 1541.
Maybe I start digging out all PC drives I have and see if they have
the right size belt.

Re: SX-64 drive belt? Aside from some very early IBM5160 full-height disk drives (?Tandon?) I've never seen a belt-driven PC drive.
There are firms that make universal belts for turntables and the like, but the problem is that those tend to be too elastic for disk drives.

Yes, I've already ruled out turntables (and the like) belts since I
noticed that the original belt is not so elastic. I'll see if I can
clean the mechanics enough to prevent the original belt to slip.
The drive is working but not really in a reliable manner.

Or find a 1541 with a broken R/W head.

yes, that too... I'll place a search on a famous auction site if
something pops up.
In the meantime, I "reversed" the original belt, made a bit of
cleaning again and
tuned the motor driver to 367 Hz again. The belt in the original side
was not even able to
turn the floppy when inserted, reversing the side helped a lot. It now
reads most of my floppies and can write/format new ones without
troubles. The original side of the belt probably lost all the "grip"
material by slipping for ages.

Any 1541 with the same mechanism will do.
