PET2001-2316-board with 2532 / 2716 possible?

vossi
Hi,
I have a 2001 with 7x 2316 ROMs.
I want to replace them by 3x2532 and a 2716 for edit-rom to build in the bugfixed Basic with floppy access ;)

After watching the schematics it should be possible:

I have to put the 4k-eproms in H1, H2, H4 and a 2716 in H3.
Pin 20 / CE is the same (for C / D / E / F - segment).
+5V goes to Pin 21 / VPP.
BA11 goes to Pin 18 / A11 of the 2532 and selects the upper or lower part.
The 2716 has a second CE at Pin 18 and will be only activated from E000-E7FF (BA11).

Has anyone tried this?

greets
Christian

A PET 2001 will not use a floppy drive. There is a video signal on the
IEEE connector that interferes with floppy operation. This was corrected
on later models.

This is not correct.

Floppy access isn't possible because a bug in basic 1.
There is a fixed version that enables full floppy use.
This version is available in original 6540 ROMs - I have this ROM-set here (6540-020 to 6540-026).

But that wasn't the question.
The question was:

Why runs the PET 2316 board with ROMs but not with eproms? - I think it should...

There are no EPROM equivalents for the 6540.  If you want to use EPROMs,
you will need an adapter board.

6540-020 is for BASIC 2.  No version of BASIC 1 will use the floppy drive.

As Christian pointed out, we're talking about replacing 2316s, not 6540s.

FWIW, in most places a 2716 will replace a 2316, but again, we're (also) talking about 2732s, not just 2716s; IIRC neither needs an adapter.

I believe the BASIC 2 2316 part numbers were 901447-20 through 901447-26, AKA 2316B-007 through 2316B-013.

Not to toot horns, but I know some folks have used my 2364 adapters to
replace all the ROMs, by putting in some jumper wires.

Re: PET2001-2316-board with 2532 / 2716 possible?

vossi
Now I tested a lot:

I successfully replaced two of the lower 2316s (H3 E000-E7FF and H4 F000-F7FF) with 2716s.
This is possible because BA11 (for X000-X7FF) goes to Pin 18 CE and in the lower ROMs is CE mask-programmed as low-active!
In the upper ROMs H5,H6,H7 (0X800 - 0XFFF) is Pin 18 mask-programmed as high-active.

It should be possible to replace each of the 4k-pairs H1/H5, H2/H6, H4/H7 with 2532s, because BA11 goes to A11 of the eproms and you need only 3 4k-eproms instead 6 2k-roms.
You can put the eproms in H1,H2,H4 or in H5,H6,H7 - that dosen't matters.

I tried this in two machines - and it dosen't runs!  Why???

Funny is:
I tried the 4k-roms of my CBM3032 in H1,H2,H4 and the 2k-Edit in H3 - and that runs!!!
Only the keyboard doesn't fit. I plugged my 3032-keyboard to the 2001 - and that works great!
