mmmh perhaps status bar could be on by default and show "press f12 for menu"
or so.... you should file a feature request :)

The version I have installed from RPM fusion, the paste even takes care of capitalizing the commands.
Could you confirm it being XAW?

From the "About" dialog:

x64 2.4.28 (GTK+ AMD64/x86_64 Linux glibc 2.23 GCC-6.1.1)

Well, it appears to be a GTK version.  Was actually unsure until I checked that.

But I will say, that, installing it on a Fedora system is trivial.
